MOCEAN YOGA'S GODDESS RETREAT - COMOX, B.C.
(Before I begin, I'd like you to know that this post is not sponsored).
Imagine waking up next to the ocean in a home built like a ship. You’re surrounded by acres of old-growth forest, ravines, and meadows. The feeling of complete serenity hits you like an epiphany. How did life feel like before this? This place is real and it exists in the Comox Valley. It’s where the incredible women of Mocean Yoga host their annual Goddess Retreat, and I’m sharing this because it changed me for the better. This retreat is where I connected to a part of myself that had been slightly unhinged by the constant influx of information that follows me everywhere I go (thanks, iPhone/ inbox). A retreat was never something I sought out for myself until this past September, but I know now that real self-care needs to extend past my face mask/bubble bath/energetic cleansing rituals to a deeper level – one that I do not facilitate myself.
Want details? Here’s a taste. The opening ceremony, talks, and some activities were hosted in a luxurious lotus belle tent on the grounds. This unique space was curated for comfort with beautiful crystals, delicious tea, layers of rugs and pillows from far away lands, and intentionally selected incense. At this point, very early on, I could tell that my stresses were starting to unravel themselves, leaving space for me to identify where my mild yet always annoying anxiety comes from. It dawned on me that I hadn’t even taken the time to notice how wound up I truly was.
So, I played. And I prayed. And I stretched and breathed and laughed. My favourite part was the candle-lit, long-table meals shared with the attendees – women of all ages choosing to put themselves first for the weekend. My favourite part then evolved into the feeling of the sun on my face and the fresh ocean air in my lungs as we did yoga on the dock. And then my favourite part transformed over and over again as healing conversations were had, flower crowns were made, intentions were set during a silent lantern-filled labyrinth walk, and the pace of these three days cemented itself as a reminder to continue putting myself first. This weekend was profoundly invigorating for me, and I’m so excited for the upcoming retreat this June. I cannot wait to join together to celebrate the goddesses we all are.
